Physiotherapist Manchester

Here at Posture Physio in Didsbury, South Manchester we teach APPI Pilates. This is a type of Pilates used by Physiotherapists to help rehabilitate injury and promote strength and conditioning to prevent injury.

Clinical Pilates is a modified version of Pilates exercises, first created by Joseph Pilates, to make the exercises safer for the general population and for those using Pilates in the rehabilitative setting. For example, those who are recovering from lower back pain. Original Pilates exercises can be in more extreme ranges and apply compressive forces through the body that only the very young and healthy can tolerate as it was a system initially designed for the ballet dancers of New York! As Chartered Physiotherapists with excellent knowledge of the body and anatomical factors, the exercise system has been adapted to apply to a wider audience so that everyone, including those who are injured, can receive the benefits without risk to the overloading forces some of the moves can create if not provided in safe hands. Pilates can create injury if you are not taught the correct technique and we know as Physiotherapists we are in a great place to provide this level of teaching and expertise.

APPI exercises are graded so we ensure you are activating the correct deep core muscle groups during the exercises. We build up the load and balance requirements of the Pilates exercises so you will become stronger, more stable and balanced. Postural muscles will become stronger during your Pilates practice and so the posture should improve along with your aches and pains. The exercises begin easy and build up to an advanced standard which is quite strenuous for those who enjoy the challenge.
